Hurricane Season in Jupiter, Florida: What to Know for 2026
As Jupiter, Florida natives, hurricane season isn’t new to us. It’s something we’ve prepared for year after year, for our entire lives. As Realtors, we’ve also had the privilege of welcoming many out-of-state buyers to our beautiful coastal community. And we get it… if you’ve never experienced a Florida hurricane season before, it can feel a little overwhelming at first.
The good news? Preparation truly is more than half the battle. Starting early makes all the difference.
There are plenty of hurricane guides online, but we always recommend going straight to your local source for the most accurate and up-to-date information. For those living in Jupiter, you can find the official Hurricane & Flood Guide here: https://www.jupiter.fl.us/1915/Hurricane-Flood-Guide

What to Expect for the 2026 Hurricane Season
The 2026 Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on June 1, and early forecasts suggest it may be a bit quieter than average thanks to El Niño. This weather pattern can create stronger winds in the upper atmosphere, which often helps break up storms before they fully develop.
Forecasters at Colorado State University are predicting around 13 tropical storms and 6 hurricanes this year.
That said, it only takes one storm to make an impact. Experts continue to remind us that even quieter seasons can still bring powerful storms. That is something Florida has seen time and time again.
There’s also a layer of uncertainty this year, as unusually warm ocean temperatures could fuel storm development. The takeaway? A slightly calmer season is possible, but it’s still important to stay prepared.
Simple Ways to Prepare (Without the Stress)
Hurricane prep doesn’t have to feel overwhelming. Focus on the essentials first:
- Stock up on medications, pet supplies, and non-perishable food
- Have water, batteries, flashlights, and backup chargers ready
- Don’t forget a few comfort items to make power outages easier (this makes a bigger difference than you’d think!)
Preparing ahead of time means you’re not scrambling when a storm is approaching.
Why Community Matters During Hurricane Season
One thing we’ve learned living here: hurricane season is easier when we look out for each other.
Neighbors play a huge role in getting through storms safely and comfortably. Whether it’s sharing updates, lending a hand, or just checking in, that sense of community makes all the difference.
It can be as simple as:
- Checking on elderly neighbors or families with young kids
- Sharing supplies or helping prep homes before a storm
- Staying connected for real-time updates and support
- Helping with cleanup and recovery afterward
There’s also a mental side to hurricane season that people don’t always talk about. Having a supportive, friendly community around you can ease a lot of stress and make the experience feel far less intimidating.
